What should I look for in a business coach?

Some things to consider include how many current clients a coach has, any association memberships, certifications, degrees and success stories. Find someone who's good at training and teaching and someone you feel comfortable with. Chemistry is important, don't automatically eliminate a prospect because their style doesn't match yours. Think had about why you're clashing. "A good coach will take you out of your comfort zone into uncomfortable waters."

Most coaches will charge from $150 to $500 an hour, and a good one will grant you a complimentary initial consultation. Treat your coach as part of the startup investment. An effective business coaching or training program or an executive coach can deliver at least $2 for every one dollar invested. This investment is quickly recovered due to the immediate increase in individual performance.

Does my business coach have to be familiar with my industry?

No. Coaching is more tailored to your individual business— that owner or manager — and specifically what they want to have as an outcome.

How should I select a  business coach?

Be sure to get the names of past clients, and contact them as references. Interview a coach the same way you will select a candidate for hire. Select someone that you feel comfortable with talking to, someone that you feel can help you in taking your business to the next level, and lastly someone with experience of being of a business owner. You could have 5 certifications and 2 degrees but if your coach has never ran a business then you should be skeptic in hiring them to assist you with your business.
